Early in the seventeenth
century New Jersey was part of New York, when the ownership of the city
changed hands sometime in 1664, New Jersey came under the English rule and
a century later was annexed
from
New York under it's own royal governor, Lewis Morris. The state of New
Jersey has a population of slightly above eight million, six hundred and
thirty thousand residents as of 2003. New Jersey's population as of 2000
ranks ninth in the United States. The capital city of New Jersey is
Trenton and it's the ninth largest city in the state. The largest city is
Newark with close to two hundred and eighty thousand residents. New Jersey
is named after an island in the English Channel called Jersey.
During the
British rule in the eighteenth century thirteen colonies revolted against
the British, New Jersey was one of those colonies. Here are a few
demographics on the state of New Jersey; Women are 51.5% of the population
and the Men are 48.5%. 72.6% of the population are White, 13.6% are
African American, 13.3% are Hispanic or Latino and 5.7% are of Asian
origin. New Jersey is placed second and first in the GDP and per capita
personal income, respectively. The economy of New Jersey is driven by the
largest industry, Chemicals and the second is Tourism. New Jersey is
ranked as one of the top research centers in the world. Several oil
refineries are situated in New Jersey. Here are some other paramount

Twenty percent of the states land is
productive farmland. New Jersey ranks among the top in the country with
the following products; dairy products, cranberries, seafood, peaches,
most garden vegetables, eggplants, Poultry, blueberries, printing and
publishing. New Jersey has quite a number of resorts on it's more than one
hundred the twenty five miles of Atlantic coastline. New Jersey is a
tourist hotspot, it's hotels are some of the best in the country. Here are

the city are; New jersey MetroStars (Major League Soccer), New Jersey
Pride (Major League Lacrosse) and several Minor League baseball teams.
Tourism is the second-largest industry in New Jersey. The state has
numerous resort areas on 127 mi of Atlantic coastline. In 1977, New Jersey
voters approved legislation allowing legalized casino gambling in Atlantic
City. Points of interest include the Delaware Water Gap, the Edison
National Historic Site in West Orange, Princeton University, Liberty State
Park, Jersey City, and the N.J. State Aquarium in Camden. |
