and is one of four teams that play in
the National Football Conference West

was given to Seattle department store
owner John Nordstrom. The nickname
Seahawks was the result of a fan contest
that drew 20,365 entries and suggested
1,742 different names. Seahawks was
suggested by 151 entrants and judged by
the team ownership as the best choice. On
June 4, 1974, the National Football

Kingdome. The Seahawks entered the NFL as

entered as members of the National
Football Conference West division.A year
later, they switched conferences with
their expansion partners, the Tampa Bay
Buccaneers, and joined the AFC West.
They played in the American Conference
until 2002, when, with league
realignment, they were returned to the
National Football Conference.In the

posted a winning record which they
repeated in 1979. The 1980s featured
more winning ways with several playoff
